5 Showstopping Cities: Move to the Town of Your Favorite TV Show

Great TV shows have a way of pulling viewers into the lives of characters, surrounding settings, and memorable stories portrayed throughout the seasons. And oftentimes, many people are left wanting to experience these places for themselves.

While some of these cities are fictional, others actually exist in real life, and visiting and even moving to these places can help you relive some of the magic experienced on the screen. 1. Outer Banks – Charleston, SC

Charleston boasts diverse neighborhoods including Daniel Island, Harleston Village, and French Quarter, as well as a perfect year-round climate, plenty of beaches, and history on every corner. If you are looking to visit some sites where the infamous pogues explored, book a tee-time at Kiawah Island Golf Resort to experience the magic of the Midsummer Night Gala, take a trip to Hunting Island Lighthouse where the crew discovered the “Redfield” clue left by John B’s father, or grab a bite to eat at Kiara’s workplace, the Wreck of Richard and Charlene.

2. Schitt’s Creek –  Goodwood, ON, CAN

If you find yourself calling this place home, visit Hockley Valley Motel otherwise known as the Rosebud Motel where the Rose family stayed after they were evicted. And if you’re wondering where Patrick popped the big question, take a scenic hike around Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area. 

3. Friday Night Lights – Austin, TX

If you’ve ever wanted to know where Friday Night Lights was filmed, considering moving to Austin, TX. The TV show’s film locations are spread throughout the Austin Metropolitan area and adjacent cities. With over 100 neighborhoods including well-known Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Downtown LA, there are many wonderful places to call home. LA is also known for its sandy beaches, delicious food, great weather, and being the entertainment capital of the world. You will never get bored with access to nearby nature and recreation such as Runyon Canyon and Big Bear Mountain Resort, as well as renowned museums such as The Getty Center and LACMA.

To visit sites where the Office was filmed, check out the Congregational Church of the Chimes to check out where Pam and Jim got married. To purchase some fresh beets at Schrute Farms check out Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall, CA – note this land is currently owned by Disney and is not open to the public. However, you can check it out from a distance. If you want to grab a drink at Poor Richard’s Pub, make a pitstop at Pickwick’s Pub in Woodland Hills, a great place to meet with friends and grab a couple of pints.

5. Stranger Things – Atlanta, GA

If you’re looking to go to the fictional town of Hawkinson, IN the closest thing you’ll get to the Stranger Things film location is Atlanta, GA. The city is the capital of Georgia and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. 

With over 200 neighborhoods including Buckhead, Little Five Points, and Knight Park-Howell Station, the city is a haven of diversity filled with many large Fortune 500 companies, a great nightlife, and was even home to the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Atlanta is best known for beautiful tree-lined streets, especially when the Georgia Peach Trees begin to flower, as well as a rich history serving as the terminus of the Western & Atlantic railroad line. 

To get a sense of Hawkinson, pay a visit to Emory University, Briarcliff for some interesting science experiments at Hawkins National Laboratory. If you’re looking to relive the school day, check out the old Patrick Henry Highschool to visit Hawkins Middle School and Hawkins High School. Or if you want to see Joyce’s workplace go shopping at Melvald’s General Store on 2nd Street.
