AHIT Launches New Texas Inspection Courses

Recently, Texas changed its state criteria for real estate inspection licensing. The AHIT team worked hard and fast to get a new TREC-approved course up and running, and it’s now open for registrations!

So, what are the changes? And what makes the AHIT course the best-in-class option for Texas inspectors? We asked our top instructor, Jim Schumacher, to tell us more about the new course he helped develop.

Shorter Course, Better Coursework

According to Jim, one of the biggest changes to the course is the reduction in mandatory hours of coursework. The course dropped from 330 hours to 194, saving students significant amounts of time, while not impacting the effectiveness of the course. While the hours have been reduced, the course has been improved, using more visuals like images and videos. This makes for a more engaging and interactive course experience.

The online course option is now paired with six real-world field inspections with an experienced inspector. These “field trainings” are the most important part of new inspector education—how can you learn to inspect homes without inspecting homes?

“It would be nearly impossible for a student who only does online practice inspections to learn how to accurately complete a real inspection report,” says Schumacher. “An online mock inspection could never duplicate the real-life inspection scenarios the professional real estate inspector will run into.”

Hands-On, Real World Experience

Included in the 40 hours of practicum training (previously called field training) is AHIT’s exclusive Field Training Guide, a helpful handout that students will use to help complete their first reports. It acts as a quick reference to everything that must be included in a real estate inspection report, including Standards of Practice Module and “never-miss” items. Using this guide, and expert instruction, students get in-depth training on report writing and analyzing data.

“Reports and data analysis are usually the hardest things for new inspectors because books and online courses don’t give them any real-world context,” says Schumacher.

The AHIT Texas program is the only course that offers a “hybrid” classroom/online learning experience. No other real estate inspection school in Texas offers the same combination of self-paced online education, in-person inspections, and hands-on classroom training.

The instructor interaction that students receive in this 4-day course—both during class and after—adds value and support that an online-only program could not. Even if a student takes the AHIT online course, they still get access to instructors for questions and concerns along the way—and for life. In fact, all AHIT students get access to, and mentorship from, instructors for life.

The AHIT Difference

Even with all these changes in Texas, AHIT remains the best-in-class leader in inspection education, as we have been for more than 30 years. Our Texas instructors are the best in the business—not only the best instructors, but some of the most successful practicing home inspectors across the country.  They have over 120 years of combined experience and operate successful businesses from owner-operators to multi-inspector firms.

The combination of unique, interactive classroom education and hands-on, real-world field inspections is only available with AHIT—no other school in Texas offers as comprehensive and effective training. Simply put, AHIT gets you ready for your inspection career so you can ace your state exam and hit the ground running!
